It’s hard for me to write about why I paint particular pictures. Sometimes, it is simply because something catches my attention. That’s it. I think the process of painting helps me to unravel the mystery of it all. This young sapling, though beautiful, looked awkward amongst all the tall mature trees. It is like a young boy trying to discover himself. The red leaves stand out, they’re flashy, but there is no real understanding of what he’s going to become. I still feel this way sometimes.
