My wife was given some flowers by our 5 year old daughter. They were appropriately placed in a tin can.  It was quite a challenging subject matter with a lot of information, but I skimmed through Richard Schmid's book, "Alla Prima" and got some well needed encouragment. In the end, I just started painting and trusted myself.
