Kyle Thomas is an avid observer of life, gaining inspiration from all around. Through his paintings he strives to pursue classical traditions of beauty.
Born in Newton, Massachusetts in 1973, Kyle was exposed to art with family vacations that always included Art Museums or Galleries and he loved looking at reproductions of the works of Michelangelo and Rembrandt in books. This strengthened his love and respect for art.
But it was in 1997 with the beginning of his BFA studies at the Laguna College of Art and Design (formerly Art Institute of Southern California) that an obvious progression was seen. He was met with like-minded professors who strongly believed in a solid foundation in drawing and were supportive of the "traditional realist" approach that which he felt best handled his expression.
After Graduation he continued self-directed studies examining the works of Realists, John Singer Sargent, Diego Velasquez, and Joaquin Sorolla, to name a few. In 2002, during a six month trip to Scotland, he met his wife and they were married the next year. With her encouragement he returned to study his MFA in 2004 at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. This experience has endowed Kyle's work with direction, continuity and an obvious strong sense of self.
Today, Kyle works in oil, charcoal and pastels to create drawings and paintings of still lifes, landscapes and, with his wife as inspiration, his greatest passion, the human form.
Kyle lives in Chandler, Arizona with his wife, daughter and son.
